Noir

Noir's freedom ride came just in time.

Scheduled for euthanasia after a large mass was discovered on his lower jaw, Noir's future looked heartbreakingly short. The painful growth made it difficult for him to eat, and with the extent of his medical needs, the shelter simply didn't have the resources to provide the specialized care he required.

The moment we learned about him, we knew we had to help.

Our Operations Manager, Carra, transported Noir directly to CARES, where Dr. Mar and the medical team immediately began his workup. Along with the large jaw mass, diagnostics revealed that Noir was also battling pneumonia, making surgery too risky. He spent nearly two weeks hospitalized in isolation, receiving around-the-clock care until he was healthy enough for anesthesia.

Once stable, Noir underwent a CT scan to carefully plan his surgery. Half of his lower jaw was successfully removed to completely excise the mass. During the same procedure, he also received a dental and was neutered.

His pathology results confirmed squamous cell carcinoma, an aggressive form of cancer. While the tumor was successfully removed, we know this type of cancer will likely return one day. For now, though, Noir is comfortable, pain-free, and enjoying every moment.

Despite everything he's been through, Noir has adapted beautifully. He loves neighborhood walks, basking in the sunshine, and soaking up endless pets from everyone he meets. His days are filled with soft beds, good meals, and the unconditional love he was denied for so long.

We don't know how much time Noir has left, but we do know this: every day from here on out will be spent surrounded by comfort, kindness, and the love he has always deserved.

You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.

How broken is your biscuit on a scale from "slightly crumbled" to "dropped in the gravy"?

  • What’s a biscuit? Let’s say, soaked in gravy.

What flavor biscuit best describes your personality?

  • What’s a biscuit? My favorite treats are soft, smooth, and/or liquidy.

If your crumbs could talk, what would they say?

  • Help, I’m drowning! (I drool a lot lol)

“Thank you!! I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the community that rallied to donate, share, and care for me. Oh, and senior dogs rule! We can teach you a thing or two about life if you are willing to listen.”
