Molly
For over 14 years, Molly lived her life outside in a small pen surrounded by trash, debris, and hazardous materials. Isolated, neglected, and nearly forgotten, her world was limited to a patch of dirt, the changing weather, and very little human interaction.
When we learned about Molly's situation, we discovered an even sadder truth. Molly had been left behind as a puppy by a landlord who never returned for her. The family living on the property cared for her as best they could out of obligation, but she was never allowed inside the home. Year after year, Molly remained in that pen, surviving rather than truly living.
When the family agreed to surrender her to Maison Sûre Foundation, we immediately brought her to CARES for a full medical evaluation. What we found broke our hearts.
Molly was covered in fleas and suffering from a severe abscess on her cheek that had become so infected it was literally rotting from the inside out. She had advanced dental disease, several small masses, a very high-grade heart murmur, and was in overall poor body condition.
Despite everything she had endured, Molly remained incredibly gentle.
Because of the severity of her heart disease, we first needed to determine whether she could safely undergo anesthesia. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Molly received an echocardiogram that allowed our veterinary team to develop a safe treatment plan. She was able to undergo the procedures necessary to address her painful dental disease and heal the devastating abscess on her cheek.
Today, Molly's life looks very different.
As a beloved member of our fospice program, she is spending her golden years exactly as every dog deserves. She now lives with the perfect fospice parents, where her days are filled with comfort, love, and peace. Instead of concrete and neglect, she has the biggest, fluffiest beds imaginable. Instead of isolation, she has a family. Instead of merely surviving, she is finally living.
We can't change the first 14 years of Molly's life.
But together, we made sure the rest of her story would be filled with love.
“Don’t give up, there are people out there who love you!”
How broken is your biscuit on a scale from "slightly crumbled" to "dropped in the gravy"?
When I first arrived I was pretty crumbled....now I am only slightly crumbly. My mom takes such good care of me, I am aging backwards like Benjamin Button
What flavor biscuit best describes your personality?
Spicy…I am a Chihuahua
If your crumbs could talk, what would they say?
Get out of my way, I was kept in a small space for 15 years, I have places to go and people to see
“I thought I was rescued. Turns out, I rescued a heart too.”
Alittle more about me:
-
My daily care routine is pretty luxurious: eat, sleep, poop, repeat. Honestly, I’ve mastered the art of the senior dog lifestyle.
-
My greatest joys are the little things—my meals arriving on time, finding the perfect nap spot, and knowing there is someone nearby who loves me.
-
I snore like a freight train, my mom laughs at me and says she doesn't know how such loud noises come out of a little dog.
-
Having my mom hold me all the time. When she picks me up, I pin my ears back and smile and give her sloppy albeit sideways kisses since my tongue has a mind of its own.
-
The recipe is simple: 4–6 meals a day, extra naps, lots of supervision from my personal assistant (my fospice mom), and just enough confusion to keep everyone on their toes.
-
That pee belongs only outside. My fospice mom calls it a ‘house rule’… I call it a suggestion
-
Making a full production out of everything. If I need something, you’ll know—I’ll slowly back up, stomp my back left foot, and add some dramatic whining for effect..
-
Every moment with my fospice mom. Whether it’s a meal, a nap, a little adventure, or simply knowing she’s nearby, those are the moments that make every day worth it. My favorite thing in the whole world is resting close to her and listening to her heartbeat—it reminds me that I’m safe, I’m loved, and I’m exactly where I’m meant to be.
