Mimi
Mimi took her freedom walk straight out of the shelter and headed directly to CARES for the medical care she so desperately needed.
She arrived with a large perineal mass, multiple mammary masses, severe dental disease, cataracts that had left her blind, and she still needed to be spayed. Despite everything she had endured, Mimi never stopped being gentle, sweet, and incredibly resilient. Her quiet spirit and unwavering trust reminded everyone she met just how much love she still had to give.
After a CT scan helped our surgical team carefully plan her procedure, Mimi spent some time in a loving foster home, finally experiencing the comfort and affection she had been missing. Once she was strong enough, she returned to CARES for an extensive surgery. She underwent removal of both mammary chains, excision of her large perineal mass, a spay, and a much-needed dental procedure.
Mimi recovered beautifully and seemed so relieved to finally move around without carrying the weight and discomfort of the giant mass. The best news was that her large perineal mass was benign. While several of her mammary masses were found to be cancerous, they were successfully removed, giving her the opportunity to enjoy a much better quality of life.
Today, Mimi is both blind and deaf, but she doesn't let either slow her down. She continues to embrace each day with quiet joy, enjoying soft beds, gentle walks, tasty treats, and the comfort of a family who adores her. As one of our beloved fospice dogs, Mimi is finally living the life every senior deserves—surrounded by love, comfort, dignity, and compassionate care for the rest of her days.

How broken is your biscuit on a scale from "slightly crumbled" to "dropped in the gravy"?
Biscuits and gravy are in New Orleans... right? Sorry, what was the question again?.
What flavor biscuit best describes your personality?
Jalapeño cheddar. I'm a little spicy and a little cheesy. Wait... are we talking about dog biscuits?
If your crumbs could talk, what would they say?
What's a crumb? I leave nothing behind.
“Adopt, don't shop. Fostering saves lives. And Maison Sûre rules!!!”
Alittle more about me:
-
Apparently, I have to go on walks... and actually walk. I don't always agree with this arrangement, but my humans insist it's "good for me."
Breakfast and dinner magically appear every single day, right on schedule (as they should). They also brush my beautiful hair—even when I make it very clear that I have opinions about it.
My favorite part? Getting my face washed. No funky eyes, no messy little chin... a girl has standards, after all. I may be blind and deaf, but I know one thing for certain...
I'm a very, very pretty girl.
-
The sound of my tags and jewelry jingling right before I get wiggled into my harness. I LOVE that sound because it means an adventure is coming! I also love when my foster mom picks me up from CARES. And one of my favorite hobbies? Playing in her long skirts. They're so swishy and fun!
-
My only quirk is that I'm completely blind. So please... do not get in my face unexpectedly. Gurrrrrrrrrr. A lady likes her personal space.
-
Lake Tahoe! I want to sniff every inch of Lake Tahoe. I also want to visit New Orleans because I've heard the food is amazing. If there are snacks involved, count me in.
-
Sleeping in. If I don't get a solid 13–14 hours of beauty sleep, I become a very tiny, very grumpy bear.
-
Rules? I don't have rules. I'm a Shih Tzu. Look at me. I'm adorable. I am not subject to the rules—I am the ruler.
-
If you don't pick up my poop fast enough, I might help clean it up myself. Why waste perfectly good food? It's so nice, I'll eat it twice.
-
All the kisses I get on my face. I'm not completely convinced about them yet, but my foster mom keeps giving them to me anyway. She kisses my face even when I bark at her! One day I might admit that I secretly love it.
