Gerrard

Gerrard’s journey began when he was found as a stray in South Los Angeles. Despite everything he had been through, he greeted the world with a wagging tail and a gentle spirit that immediately won hearts.

When Gerrard came into our care, he faced numerous medical challenges. He was overweight, had significant hind-end weakness, severe dental disease, was both deaf and blind, and had a heart murmur. Before addressing his painful dental disease, Gerrard underwent an echocardiogram to ensure he could safely undergo anesthesia. Thankfully, he was cleared for surgery and received the dental care he desperately needed.

As Gerrard continued to settle into rescue, we placed him on our adoptable list and hoped to find him the perfect forever home. Then everything changed. Gerrard suffered a severe seizure and was rushed for specialty care. He underwent a full neurological workup, including an MRI, but no underlying cause was found. He was ultimately diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy and started on medication that he will need for the rest of his life.

At that point, it became clear that Gerrard’s journey had already led him exactly where he belonged. His devoted foster family chose to become his lifelong foster family, ensuring he would never have to face another transition or uncertainty again.

Today, Gerrard spends his days surrounded by love, comfort, and the people who adore him. He also has a very special best friend—a cat who rarely leaves his side. The two are inseparable, proving that friendship comes in all forms.

Though Gerrard cannot see or hear, and despite the many medical hurdles he has faced, one thing has never changed: his tail. It never stops wagging. Through every challenge, every appointment, and every new chapter, Gerrard continues to greet life with joy, resilience, and unconditional love. He is a reminder that happiness isn't measured by perfection—it's measured by the ability to keep wagging, no matter what.

Wake up every day knowing that something good will happen...like breakfast.
— Gerrard
