Chouette

Chouette was transported straight from the shelter to CARES for a full medical evaluation after receiving his freedom ride. Like so many senior dogs, it quickly became clear that he had been quietly living with a number of painful and untreated medical conditions for quite some time.

After a complete examination, bloodwork, X-rays, and additional diagnostics, we learned that this sweet little senior had several significant health challenges, including severe dental disease, an enlarged heart, a severe urinary tract infection, and advanced IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease). His spinal X-rays revealed one especially concerning area where two vertebrae were touching, causing compression that explained the discomfort he had likely been living with every day. Despite everything his body had endured, Chouette remained incredibly gentle and trusting throughout every exam.

His treatment began immediately. Chouette was started on antibiotics to clear his painful urinary tract infection and pain medications to help relieve the chronic discomfort caused by his spinal disease. After undergoing an echocardiogram, he was also diagnosed with heart disease and began daily cardiac medication to help support his heart and keep him feeling his best. His medical team carefully developed a long-term treatment plan focused on comfort, mobility, and maintaining the best possible quality of life.

While Chouette faces several chronic medical conditions, he refuses to let them define him. He still enjoys exploring his surroundings, curling up in cozy blankets, and soaking up every bit of affection from his foster family. Every meal, every nap in a warm bed, and every gentle cuddle is a reminder that his life has been transformed.

Most importantly, Chouette is no longer suffering alone. Instead of spending his golden years in a shelter kennel, he is surrounded by love, comfort, and compassionate care in his foster home. As one of our cherished fospice dogs, Chouette will never have to worry about where his next meal, medical treatment, or warm place to sleep will come from again. His days are now filled with dignity, kindness, and the unconditional love every senior dog deserves.

Where you lead, I will follow.
