Bella

It truly took a village to save sweet Bella.

When we first saw her heartbreaking shelter photo, she was sitting quietly at the back of her kennel, surrounded by diarrhea and looking completely defeated. That single image sparked an outpouring of support from our community, and we knew we had to act quickly.

Thanks to your generosity, Bella was rescued and transported directly to CARES, where she could finally decompress and receive the medical attention she desperately needed. Under the care of Dr. Williams, it was discovered that the large swelling on the side of her face was caused by a severe tooth root infection and abscess. Bella had likely been living with significant pain for quite some time.

She underwent extensive dental surgery and had 16 diseased teeth removed. Despite everything she had endured, Bella handled her recovery like a champion. Her bloodwork was remarkably good, and while X-rays revealed arthritis consistent with her age, she was otherwise in much better health than anyone expected. She also received a much-needed grooming from our incredible vet tech Jackie after arriving severely matted and uncomfortable.

Today, Bella is living her best life with her loving fospice family. She enjoys going to the office with her foster mom, soaking up attention from everyone she meets, and never turns down a pup cup.

Over the past several months, Bella has also been battling severe vestibular disease, which has slowed her down considerably. Her walks are shorter and slower these days, but she still looks forward to them every day. She continues to greet each morning with determination, proving that joy can exist even in the face of aging and medical challenges.

From a defeated shelter dog to a cherished member of a family, Bella's story is a beautiful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to give a senior dog a second chance.

If you need me, don’t. I’ll be in bed

How broken is your biscuit on a scale from "slightly crumbled" to "dropped in the gravy"?

  • Dropped into thousands of pieces with me trying to pick them up, probably with my tongue

What flavor biscuit best describes your personality?

  • Chili! I may be a senior, but I've still got plenty of sass and a little kick left in me

If your crumbs could talk, what would they say?

  • Leave us alone... we're trying to nap.

“I am so grateful to be in such a loving home where I can be my best self. I also hate my puppy sisters.”
